We are well into my favorite riding season, and I have had to miss a few rides already. Well it looks like I may miss a few more. Yesterday was the Granogue cross race, I don't race cross but I enjoy this event, and most of all I enjoy our little Anti-Cross ride. This was the 3rd annual, and was shaping up to be the biggest turn out yet. I really look forward to this ride all year. I was all geared up for the ride, then something really odd happened. I was on the computer and Rachael was getting ready to leave for work. I got up and was making my to say good by when I felt some thing in my calf POP, the next thing I know, I am on the floor in absolute agony. You know all I could think about was not being able to ride. It was not looking good, I couldn't even walk, how was I going to ride.
I had to go to Granogue reguardless, so I managed to get my truck loaded up and make my way to the race. I tried to ride, it hurt, but it wasn't as bad as I thought, the problem was planting my foot, it was pretty painful. I decided to give it a go anyway. The group was a good one and I wanted to take part in my ride. Matt led us out of Granogue towards Brandywine, where Les took over. I never made it into the park. While making the turn off the road and onto the trail I fell over, and when I put my foot down, I knew my ride was over. I turned around and went back.
I had a job to do anyway. You see I was given the title of the Beer Czar, so I was in charge of the beer tent. As I was tapping the Keg Marc asked me to put out a tip cup and ask for donations to HERA, in honor of Sam, who couldn't make it to the race. I was more than willing to try and collect money for such a worthy cause.
I had a great time manning the kegs, and I had a lot of help from Amy, Elizabeth, and Nick. Together we went through two half barrels in about 3.5 hours, and we managed to collect nearly $300.00. Not a ton of money, but certainly nothing to sneeze at. There were a few people that very generous, and I would like to thank you.
So despite missing one of my favorite rides I had a great day, and I think the race was a huge success.
Time for more medicine.
Cheers,
Buddy
