Single Speed Base Miles?

I have been in base mode for 4 weeks now. I have hit my hour goals every week, and the bulk of those hours have been spent on my single speed. Is that a good thing or a bad thing? It can be difficult to take it easy on a single speed, even though I have really tried. No matter how easy you ride you are still using a lot of power. I wonder if this will have an effect on me later in the year? Only time will tell. Right now I feel pretty good. I won't make the same mistake I made last year by not getting enough rest.

I tried to tone my base down this week. The idea was less total hours but with one big ride. That ride came today. A very large group of us met at fatmarc's house for a nice base pace 3 park tour. The group was, Marc, Matt, Mike K, John C, L Webb, Jeb Bagger, Kurtee, Dougie fresh, Single speed Dan, Jay Jay, and two special guests Wes the Conqueror, and Dave I locked my keys in the car Crouse. The ride was awesome. Marc set a nice pace through all of Fair Hill. After Fair Hill we made our way to Rittenhouse. Some how I ended up at the front. I tried to keep things even but there are sections of that trail that demand to be ridden fast. Our next stop was Iron Hill. We did a small loop there then started making our way back. We lost a few folks along the way but that happens on epic rides.
The day ended with Matt and I trying to get that last little bit of single track. Since it is currently snowing it's ass off, it may be a while before we are on the trails again.

Ouch!!!

Yesterday started innocently enough. I go to work. After work I head to Middle Run for a little ride. I met up with Matt run Forrest for a little while. It was a pretty good ride even though I felt like crap and the trails were a little sketchy in spots. Then I was headed home. This is when things went wrong. I was traveling along Newark rd. Just as I was crossing over rte 41 some idiot made a left turn in front of me. I slammed on the brakes and hit the horn, but at least I didn't hit him. Then as I am almost across the intersection an even bigger idiot tried to turn left in front of me. This time he didn't make it. I slammed into him pretty hard. Everything went white as my airbags deployed. After a brief moment I gathered myself, made sure I wasn't hurt, then found my cell phone and called 911. The other driver was not hurt either, and lucky for him my bike stayed on the roof rack. Because I can tell you I would have been really pissed if that got damaged.

This was the end result.

Now I have to got through the hassle of getting a rental car and either getting my car fixed or buying a new if it is totaled.

The other came out a little worse that mine. But the all important thing is know one was injured, and my bike is OK as well.

Rockin' in the rental,
Buddy

Super Sunday...

I am a football fan. Yesterday was the Super Bowl, and I can honestly say I wasn't very excited. After the year I endured with the Eagles it was tough to watch. I was hoping for a good game at least but that didn't happen. Matty run Forrest, his Wife Amy, fatmarc, Ted Logic, my wonderful wife Rachael and I made the best of it and had a good time. There were a few good commercials, lots of snacks and of course plenty of beer. In fact I finally cracked open My Oaked Arrogant Bastard.

Pouring it wasn't easy.

and since it didn't fit in the fridge, I had to put outside.

Our boy Ted Logic kept us entertained with his tales form the past and some of his Ted Logic:
1 - "6 is above 13"
2 - "I was asked to choke up"
These are both inside jokes that probably won't be funny if you weren't there, I had to mention them anyway.

In the end Pittsburgh won, even though neither team played well. Oh Well!

I must polish off my big beer before it goes totally flat.

Rock and Ride,
Buddy

3 Down, 3 To Go...

Today put an end to my 3rd week of base, that means I am half way there. Yesterday I went out on my own. I knew the rain was coming so I headed out early. It was a good ride I was able to take it easy the whole ride. My goal was 3 hours, I ended up in with 2.5 but it was raining it's ass off when I was heading home.

Today I met up with fatmarc, Ted Logic, Fort James, and Matt Run Forrest. We left out of Marc's house bright and early this morning. The loop was pretty flat but the wind was brutal.

Ted Logic and Matt after one of Ted's tail wind attacks.

Matt was the man today. I think he was on the front for 3 out of the 3:40 we rode today. Not to mention he rode in from his house and rode home.
Next week I will take a little easy then put in two big weeks before intensity starts.

Time to get ready for the Super Bowl.
